I’ve written dozens of “first!” posts for the various websites I’ve run, pretended to run, or tried to run. The content may have differed, but the title remains the same. So here I am again, stuck in a loop. “History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new” – Ecclesiastes 1:9 NLT.
First things first: this will be a personal blog. I don’t necessarily need one, or even have much to talk about. But I like that I have full control over the domain and have a virtual home I can abscond to. This gives me a small measure of comfort given the uncertainty of social media sites these days. I don’t want to be stuck again if the My Pillow guy decides to buy Bluesky.
My plan is to use this blog mostly to share my experiences writing stories, frequently peppered with random musings on other topics that interest me. I view this as a forcing functional to encourage me to write more often, even if it’s just a simple blog post. Unlike past ventures, I will attempt to keep the site experience minimal and focused on this.
Next up: I plan to participate in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) 2024. For the unfamiliar, that will require me to write a novel-length story of 50,000 words or more during the month of November. I previously did this in 2021 and have been meaning to get back to it. I may participate “unofficially” and post my progress here instead as NaNoWriMo is currently embroiled in yet another controversy of their own making, but that’s a blog post for another day…
